Database Instances

A database instance consists of memory areas and processes. The core design philosophy of the Halo database is a pluggable kernel, which is the key to making the Halo database a next-generation unified database.

Figure 1-3 Halo Database Instance Architecture

Figure 1-3 illustrates the main components of the Halo database instance. Through the pluggable kernel design, it is possible to very flexibly achieve compatibility with multiple protocols, compatibility with multiple syntaxes, and support for distributed storage engines (HFSX, technology under development). This important characteristic is also a key reason why Halo can be called a next-generation unified database.
